Palmetto Youth Academy, PYA,

is a public charter school in

Florence School District One.

PYA offers grades 3-6

to a maximum of 75 students. 

Our Mission

is to provide an opportunity

for all students,

regardless of income or ability,

to reach their full

academic, social, and behavioral potential.   

Our Students

receive individualized instruction

based on ability and

 academic performance levels.

This approach is often referred to as, "ability grouping". 

At PYA, advanced learners can excel beyond grade-level standards and

students who need additional support

are provided the tools necessary to achieve individual goals. 

                Our Parents

 not only recognized 

their child's potential,

but also,

took the initiative

to ensure academic excellence.

Parents are their children's

first teachers and they know,

better than anyone else, 

their child's learning styles and abilities.

Therefore, parents should be

allowed to choose the

educational program or school

that most appropriately meets their child's individual needs. 

The ability to choose

should not be determined by

a parent's ability to pay or their income. 

Therefore, PYA and other public charter schools were established to offer parents an additional choice, without the additional costs.
