Program Summary
Palmetto Youth Academy (PYA) is a Public Chartered School which operates on a year-round schedule from 7:30am-5:30pm with free academic-based after school program and 185 intructional days. PYA is designed for students in grades 3-6. Several different instructional strategies and curricula are used to meet the indivual learning styles and abilities of students and to teach the S.C. Standards in all subject areas. Reading Mastery and Saxon Math are primarily used for all grade levels.
One of the most effective instructional methods used is "ability grouping." This method allows students to be grouped with peers performing on or near the same academic level in reading and math versus actual grade level placements.In addition, PYA offers an enrichment program and video instructions with highly qualified professionals.
Students are required to wear uniforms and parents are strongly encouraged to volunteer a minimum of 20 hours per school year.
Extra curricular activities include: drum line, praise dance, choir, flag team, step team, writing club, art club and girl scouts.
