Origin:
Palmetto Youth Academy (PYA) originated from the long-term passion and persistence of several parents, educators and community members who, not only recognized the need for a more individualized program, but also developed and implemented a plan to effectively meet these diverse needs. This planning committee was established in 2003, the charter application was approved in 2004 and Palmetto Youth Academy opened August 2005.
PYA is chartered for students in grades 3-6. All teachers and paraprofessionals meet SC Highly Qualified Status as required by No Child Left Behind
